Certification Scopes under the FSSC 22000 Scheme

GFSI is a global forum of retail chains, manufacturers, and service providers in the food industry, bringing together major companies such as METRO GROUP, CARREFOUR, ROYAL AHOLD, DANONE, COCA-COLA, KRAFT FOODS, and other leading brands.

Under the FSSC 22000 scheme, the following scopes are eligible for certification:

A) Primary processing of plant products, food manufacturing, and production of bio/chemical products
Includes:
ISO 22000 + ISO/TS 22002-1 + FSSC 22000 Additional Requirements

B) Manufacturing of packaging materials
Includes:
ISO 22000 + ISO/TS 22002-4 + FSSC 22000 Additional Requirements

C) Retail and wholesale of food products, including supermarkets, hypermarkets, stores, food warehouses, and similar facilities
Includes:
ISO 22000 + BSI/PAS 221 + FSSC 22000 Additional Requirements

D) Food transportation and storage service providers
Includes:
ISO 22000 + ISO/TS 22002-5:2019 + FSSC 22000 Additional Requirements

E) Catering service providers
Includes:
ISO 22000 + ISO/TS 22002-2 + FSSC 22000 Additional Requirements

F) Feed and animal food processing
Includes:
ISO 22000 + ISO/TS 22002-6 + FSSC 22000 Additional Requirements

Benefits of FSSC 22000 compared with IFS and BRC:

• Lower scheme-owner fees, which are also reflected in the certification price
• Certification validity for a period of three years
• Easier implementation for holders of ISO certifications due to shared requirements
• No K.O. requirements and the elimination of mandatory knockout criteria
• Compatibility with other ISO standards, such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, allowing combined audits
• Greater international acceptance through the use of the global network of accreditation bodies to approve certification companies

Certified organizations are authorized to use the FSSC logo.

Food Safety Management System Based on FSSC 22000

In 2012, the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) approved the FSSC 22000 scheme as an equivalent alternative to the existing IFS and BRC schemes. FSSC 22000 is based on the international ISO 22000 standard, which supports broad international acceptance and the global expansion of certifications.
